In any case, my test vehicle's seats were supportive and covered in smooth perforated leather. I'll give Chevy a point for this, but yank it back for not offering this for the L, LS, or LT trims. When you step into the Equinox's cabin, make sure you have your shades on because the amount of metal-finish trim pieces can be overwhelming, adding visual noise to what is already a busy cabin. Until I examined the window sticker closely, I had assumed that the Equinox sitting in my driveway was painted Chevy's standard white color, so this qualifies as a grand poorly spent. Even luxury brands like Audi charge less, and for fancier colors. That's a ton of extra money to charge for a paint upgrade on a mainstream vehicle. My Equinox Premier test vehicle sported optional Iridescent Pearl Tricoat paint, which is a $995 upgrade. In Premier trim, it even provides an upscale look thanks to its attractive 18-inch aluminum wheels, though I'm not a big fan of the gray plastic cladding along the bottom of the body. Cohesive themes and deftly executed details allow the eye to flow along its flanks, and while it lacks the distinctive drama of a Mazda CX-5, it's also less quirky than the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4.
